City: Sweet Briar
Architect: Crews (or Crouse) family
By far the prettiest and certainly it has the best history — ghosts and all!
My mother, Marion Inglis Jayne Berguido,(SBC 1928)counted Ann Pannell, President of the College during the years that three of her daughters attended SBC, among her dear friends. Mother was always invited to stay at Sweet Briar House when she visited the College, and I was thrilled to also get to see the lovely interior of the house and walk among the boxwoods that surrounded it. I am hoping that this spledid residence is chosen as one of the 250 significant structures in the state of Virginia. JBG ’67

Sweet Briar house embodies the gracious way of life of old Virginia. Indiana Fletcher Williams was a well educated woman of her day, who dreamed of educating women in future days.

Fond memories of the house and grounds.
Beautiful memories and nostalgia for all that Sweet Briar
represents. I recall fondly the many visits to greet President Anne Gray Pannell in 1970.
I will return to my alma mater this spring.
California may be the Golden State where I live; may Sweet Briar always remain as the rose gold in my heart.
One of the most beautiful structures in Virginia!
I grew up just off the campus and the President’s House was always a place of beauty and interest. In fact, as a kid we used to play in the beautiful boxwoods that surround the house! I hope it stands for many years to come.
A beautiful period home.
Sweet Briar house has my vote!
Beautiful year round and the history just adds to that!
Sweet Briar House is an architectural treasure!
I always loved Sweet Briar House, it is not boastful in its presence. It connects with its surroundings…it is beautiful . Like music frozen in time.
It is truly a beautiful landmark! Class of 2002!
Such a unique and special house, in an unbelievably beautiful setting!
Sweet Briar House is certainly one of Virginia’s most important historic houses. A gem that has been in constant use, beautifully maintained in a landscape setting that enhances the entire presentation.
Sweet Briar House is beautiful. Its former residents have a very dynamic and poignant history which eventually lead to the founding of this remarkable, erudite, forward-thinking institution. Sweet Briar College is dedicated to the education, personal empowerment, exposure, and the launching into the world of young women who are well-equipped to make a difference in the world. The fact that the altruism of (mainly) one person/family has lead to this wonderful phenomenon (unlike any other college nearby)makes the inclusion of Sweet Briar House imperative. Thank you.
This is absolutely one of the most beautiful homes in Virginia!
